Finding Our Adventure

Inspired Itinerary

Are you planning to stay at the Tawny and wondering how to make the most of your stay? This 48 hour guide will show you the best way to spend your time whilst staying at the Tawny and how to make it the most memorable break.

Day 1 - Arrival

As you arrive on the grounds at the Tawny, you will drive along a track that will lead you to the main car park. Make your way to the reception, where you will be given all the information you will need during your stay and check in is from 3 pm.

If you arrive early, there are comfy seats to relax in the reception area or you can walk over to the Feather Lounge for lunch and drinks if there is availability. Once you are given the keys, you’ll be escorted by either a golf buggy or Land Rover to your relaxing retreat, drop off your bags and it’s time to explore.

Day 1 - Afternoon

Admire your new surroundings and get your bearings. At any time of year, a walk is always a good idea - the Tawny provides welly boots at reception (if you’ve forgotten suitable footwear) and an umbrella; you have no excuse not to get outside!

We’d recommend going for a ramble around the extensive Tawny grounds, there are big plans to make it even more sustainable and wildlife-abundant. Get lost in the magnificent grounds and see if you can find any wildlife enjoying these beautiful gardens. During our stay, we spotted a juvenile smooth newt near the boathouses on one of our many rambles.

Take one of the many winding paths across the site, and use the Tawny illustrated map to help you navigate your way around. Look out for the many follies scattered across the grounds, these are garden structures designed to enhance the landscape. The follies at the Tawny include an Italian Garden, Stone Circle and Ladypark, all created by Mr Podmore.

    Day 1 - Evening

As the evening draws in, watch the grounds transform from day to night. There is a diverse species of trees are on the estate and two of the most impressive trees are the Giant Redwood trees (Wellingtonia Sequoia Gigantia) on either side of the swimming pool, native to central California.

Retreat to the sanctuary of your treehouse before dinner. Head to the Plumicorn for a delicious meal in a wonderful, elegant setting where you’ll enjoy local dishes paired with magnificent wines.

    Day 2 - Morning

Take it easy, after a nice long lie-in, because you deserve it. If you’re feeling extra lazy you can order breakfast in bed where you’ll get a hamper full of pastries, fresh orange juice, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, and granola to enjoy inside your beautiful cosy place. You must pre-order your breakfast hamper, 24 hours in advance

Alternatively, make your way to the Plumicorn for a delightful breakfast overlooking the Tawny estate. Choose from a selection of pastries, juices and cooked breakfast options to enjoy for the perfect start to your day.

For a bit of adventure, put on your walking shoes and discover the wonderful Peak District National Park, a short drive from the Tawny Hotel. There are many nearby places to choose from including the Roaches, Dovedale and Thor’s Cave/Lud’s Church. Take your time to soak in the panoramic views, and breathe in the fresh country air. It is an iconic English landscape that has inspired many literary greats such as Jane Austen.

    Day 2 - Afternoon

Return to the Tawny, for an afternoon by the outdoor heated swimming pool. The exquisite and majestic setting of the pool makes it a wonderful place to read a book and relax after a morning out exploring the Peak District. The best thing about a heated pool is that there is no excuse not to get in for a lovely dip with incredible views of the grounds.

For the ultimate relaxation, treat yourself to a spa treatment that takes place in the beautiful thatched cottage on the estate. Choose from a body massage, facial and other special treatments including raindrop therapy.

    Day 2 - Evening

Tonight it’s time to make the most of your last evening in the magical treehouse. Order room service to enjoy in the comfort of your room and watch your favourite movie. Run a bath outside where you can stargaze with your refreshing drink to get ready for a wonderful night's sleep. Check out is 11 am, call reception beforehand to arrange transport for your luggage back to your vehicle.
