Raku Pottery Experience

Outdoor at The Tawny

Two Course Lunch and Pottery Experience

Saturday 4th April and Saturday 29th August 2026

Morning Session - 9.45am Workshop followed by lunch.

Afternoon Session - 12pm Lunch followed by workshop.

Come and enjoy the captivating art of Raku pottery in the gardens at The Tawny Hotel. This ancient Japanese art, originally associated with making treasured tea bowls for the traditional tea ceremony, features dramatic 'live' kiln firings.

You’ll be offered a choice of pre made biscuit fired pots and then guided through a variety of creative glazing methods, combining tradition with Andy’s individual techniques. Your pots will go through a rapid firing and finally emerge from smouldering ashes revealing the special qualities of Raku - a combination of earthy tones, metallic effects and rich deep colours.

In The Gardens

Potter, teacher, and workshop leader Andy Mason brings his enthusiasm and many years of experience to the workshop process, plus an insight into the ancient rituals and contemporary art of Raku.

No previous experience required, just an interest and willingness to participate, and soak up the energy, art and alchemy of Raku.

A two-course set lunch is included along with soft drinks.
